You are what you eat.

You are what you eat 04

Who doesn't know those evenings, going home after work in the rain and you know that a long evening and even a longer weekend lies in front of you. Longing for a hot bath and a filled refrigirator. That is how this place turns into a treasury of secret pleasures.

"You Are What You Eat"  is a project from the photographer Mark Menjivar from San Antonio, Texas, who travelled through the land for three years to document this private treasury. He was exploring  the effect the consumtion of food is having on individuals and our society. Until the third of february 2013 it is shown in Brooklyn 0.00156 acres, if somebody maybe is around.

Song Reader Beck

Beck Song Reader 05

Even if I claim that Beck is a marketing specialist and not an aritst in the first place I would like to pull my hat off to him concerning his latest "album". Respect.
The idea not to record an album but sell the scores of his music looks like a real milestone in the music business. To give his fans the opportunity to interpret his music in their own way an publish them at the Song Reader Website zu veröffentlichen is a very fresh and new twist within this business.

Beck himself was talking about a dynamic project during an interview with the New Yorker. Musicians and musically gifted people this book is for sure a real challange and enrichment. But what do all the people who are not able to read scores? Well, waiting for his next concert I guess. Which will have a record number of visitors. (Look, and there I see the marceting specialist again) At bottom Beck's Song Reader is the idea of the century. As nowadays a concert often mutates into an expensive reproductive experience after listening to the album over and over again. With his scores he created a renaissance of the concert premiere.

Well, and for all persons who are not really into music but more into visual incentives, Song Reader provides a lot for you too. All 20 songsheets were designed by 20 different illustrators (Sergio Mebrillas, Alonzo Felix, Jing Wei,...). All in all the Song Reader is
printed well and presented in a presentable Retro Look. Except the cover – hmm Mister Beck, apparently there was no illustrator involved?

Design Sponge

Design Sponge

I am recently re-decorating my apartment and throughout my online research I came across this really fantastic blog Design Sponge. They provide a wide range of interesting information related to interior design and design and creating at home in general. DIY, sneak peeks, cities, before and afters, entertainment, products and much more ..
Whether if you want to start a craft project, make a meal, plan a trip or throw a party Design Sponge is a very helpful source for ideas and inspiration.

I mostly love the sneak peeks, where they show pictures of very creative homes – all with a very special style and personal touch. In addition to the explanation of the owners themselves this site really inspires and motivates me in many terms. It is so good to know that other people as well put a lot of thinking in making their homes beautiful an appealing without spending a high amount on money at the same time.

I am surfing the web on a beautiful sunday morning and stumbling upon these beautiful art tattoos. I LOVE them. I have never seen something like that. Amanda Wachob is the name to remember. She creates this amazing piece of art on skin. Amanda Wachob is a New York based artist and isn't only involved within the tattoo business but creates visual art beyond skin as well.
Magazines have reviewed her work already since 2007. Why do I only notice her art now?!

From now on I am starting to save some money, to go to New York and get one of these stunning colored brushstrokes. Well, guess I have to try to get an appointment first. Fully booked nearly a year in advance! These busy women in the arts, tzzz.

Molz Fotografie

It is always great when people decide to turn their beloved hobby into a profession. Michael Molzar did so. A photographer from Vienna who decided to have fun at work in three different genres: sports, weddings, children. He asked me to develop a very new and different corporate identity. So I did.

Do you know the legend about tangram? I guessed that capturing the beauty of the world within just one rectangle goes very well with what a photographer does. Michael very much liked this idea and I was glad he has chosen this special concept for his corporate look.
His nickname always has been MOLZ so we used that name and I developed a tangram-like logotype using the "O" as a camera icon. This icon - isolated from the logotype - is perfect as a very reserved watermark for his pictures. Further, me and my trainee Annika had so much fun playing tangram on the computer and developing this three genre-icons in addition to the logotype and the watermark.

Definitely MOLZ FOTOGRAFIE will not only attract one's attention through his marvelous photographs but also catch one's eye through its very outstanding corporate clothing, ...

Bavarian Summer

Every 5th yeas Eric Bongwald is having a party at his hair saloon. A christmas party, a 10th-year-aniversary party and this year it is the bavarian summer party.

He asked me to design his invitation cards and I have got to say that I pretty enjoyed it. Bavarian design can be so easy and simple and still good looking. Always loved those blue rhombuses anyway. What a simple corporate design Bavaria is having there... Brezels, Beer and Rhombuses!

Spiral | Origami Art Design

frlp blog 120601 spiral origami book 01frlp blog 120601 spiral origami book 02
frlp blog 120601 spiral origami book 03

It is finally ready! The book has been printed, refined, bound and is ready to be sold.
Two years ago Paulo Mulatinho from Viereck Verlag started this project together with Tomoko Fuse, a very famous origami artist from Japan. It should be the most astonishing book in Origami – and it is!

Not only the content itself, the graphic design, the layout and concept, the photographs are astonishing, but also the embossing on the hardcover and the sleeve leave a big impression already at the very first moment when you are about to flip through the first pages. 348 pages of elegance and beauty, mesmerizing photographs and "want-to-fold-too" paper spirals. Not only for Origami-lovers but also for designers in every terms, architects and photographers... this is one of the books you simply want to own and show off with on your coffee table.

I only have been part of this process the last four months, but I can tell you it has been very intense from the first hour I was working on this project. I was working with a great team, with very good spirit and endless energy until the bitter end. We had more than one night we spent in front of the computer and more than one valley to stride – but all this lead to this very beautiful piece of Design.
Four months with nearly nothing but spirals – I am glad I was part of this. It was worth it!

If you are interested you can order it now directly through the Viereck Verlag!

Marcus Nickel

The new website for my super hero web developer is online!!

Nearly every website I have created in the last few years he is responsible for the code, even mine. He needed logo and a new look for his website and I was very happy that finally I was able to make up and give back a bit of all this energy he was putting into all of my web-projects so far.

A project that shows the fantastic results of a work done by two co-workers hand in hand with passion and love for details. Simple and stylish, a bit nerdy and still very sophisticated. Loved to design all these icons!

Thank you very much Marcus, I hope we will work together on great future projects for many, many years.

PS: Testing the site on all the different browsers and devices has been quite an experience ;)

Origami Convention 2012

The owners of the VIERECK VERLAG I have been telling about in an earlier post also do have an Origami Gallery and they do organize an Origami Convention every year in Freising as well.

Every convention has its topic – this year it was about TRACES.

This year due to the wonderful book SPIRAL – Origami | Art | Design that the VIERECK VERLAG has published they invited Tomoko Fuse – the author of the book – as the surprise guest over from Japan.

3 days of folding paper and creating paper craft objects. 200 people folding corner to corner and beyond. Very amazing stuff... 3 days of lessons about different inventions and talks about the philosophical background of folding and folds and traces in general as well as in particular.

Left very much a trace,...

Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern

It doesn't happen very often that I get completely thrown into a a book's world. Erin Morgenstern describes an extraordinary poetic event in her stunning new debut novel NIGHTCIRCUS: A circus that comes every now and then and only at night … What a journey. I absolutely loved it. I am waiting for the circus arriving here in Munich – and for Erin's new book.

The book cover illustration is especially beautiful and has been crafted by Helen Musselwhite. I just love her sensitive paper-cut illustrations. Don't you?!
